Thomas Paine´s “Common Sense” was the main text of the North American culture in the 16 th century. It´s influence on The Declaration Independence gave birth to the seminal ideas of Thomas Jefferson´s work.
According to Paine, the ruler of a nation should be chosen by the people, not the chosen by God, or someone that inherited power from his ancestors. The principles of liberty, self determination, and justice were present in “Common Sense”.
There were strugles against the British Government – the seeds of an upcoming revolution – thanks to laws and taxation over the 13 colonies. This was a fruitful ground for independence feelings.
Anerica was the final destination for people who fled from exploitation, severe religious persecution, and other limitations. The ideas of Paine paved the way for independence.
